Lincoln MKC 2019 Reviews

Lincoln MKC 2019 shares its fundamentals with Ford Escape and rises against competitors such as the Infiniti QX50 and Lexus NX. Today, we will find out whether this American crossover has what it takes to justify the steep 192,000 Dirham price.

Exterior

Now Lincoln MKC has been around since 2015 and recently underwent a facelift. The most striking change is the split wing grille seen in the previous model has been replaced by a rectangular corporate grille seen in newer Lincoln models such as Continental and Navigator. Apart from that, not much has changed and that is not a bad thing because MKC is a very well designed car. There are LED headlamps, large alloy wheels, lots of chrome, and everything you would expect a premium crossover to have.

Inland

In terms of quality and interior design, Lincoln does a fantastic job. Sure, there are large pieces of plastic (especially along the center console) but that is offset by soft leather and wood trim. Speaking of quality, the wood trim on the dashboard and door panels are made of real wood and not plastic that is painted to look like wood - something we've seen in a lot of cars.

Being a family car, the second row is as important as the first (if not more) and the MKC is impressive with plenty of headroom and legroom. Adding to the comfort is the fact that it leans, along with rear AC vents, cupholders, and rear charging ports. A 714 liter luggage space with the second row used and 1,500 liters when folded flat If you are wondering how it fits with its competitors, it's more than the Lexus NX but less than the Infiniti QX50.

The features

On the feature front, Lincoln MKC cannot compete with its competitors. For nearly 200,000 Dirhams, it does not offer adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, a 360 degree camera, or wireless charging - a feature that so many buyers receive.

What it offers, is a 12-way driver seat that can be adjusted with memory settings, panoramic roof, infotainment touch screen with SYNC 3, navigation, Android Auto and Apple Car Play, 4 USB charging ports, and a great Lincoln Premium audio system with 9 speaker. On the safety side, there is a remote engine starter, tire pressure monitoring system, driver's knee airbags, front and side airbags, and SOS post-accident emergency warning system. Everything is very good, limit the pixelated rear camera that is bound to remind you of camera phones in the early 2000s.

Push

For driving, Lincoln MKC feels luxurious and that is due to several factors. Of course, this is the amount of skin in the cabin, but it is also related to silence and isolation from things like road noise and wind noise. This is achieved by using a combination of acoustic glass and active noise cancellation technology - like you find on expensive headphones.

Speaking of luxury, I must underline that Lincoln has exerted all of his efforts in this change and it is pleasing. Many manufacturers today try to balance sportiness with luxury and while very few can reach the goal, most of the time you end up with a crossover or SUV that is not sporty or very luxurious.

Speaking of numbers, the MKC is equipped with a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 245 horsepower and 373 Nm of torque. This is driven through a 6-speed automatic transmission and sent to the front wheels, making this another area that loses competition because the QX50 and NX offer an All Wheel Drive configuration.

Drive modes do exist, namely Normal, Comfort, and Sport, but they are difficult to access and require a lot of scrolling through a small instrument cluster display. The fastest way to switch between modes is to change the transmission mapping and switch from 'D' to 'S', which is done with gear controls mounted on this neat dashboard.
